Default Rubbing Arms while asleep

Every night I know when my husband is sound asleep. He lifts his arms up in the air and starts rubbing them. At first it would freak me out when I saw him doing this. Then night after night, I finally got use to is.
The weird thing is his sister does the same thing. Has anyone every heard of this before?

Default it must be similar to my hubby kicking

I know my arms go dead, literally. And its painful. But hubby will sit up and talk, as will daughter, and he will kick, walk and act like he is awake but he's not.
Maybe he is in twilight when arm pain begins and he has to get the circulation back. I have to do that. I will be half asleep when i feel the blood not circulate and lift my arm up so it can drain back down.
do they have any circulation or family conditions?

I think it is attached with some type of sleeping disorder which comes hereditary. However I am not sure about this. You have to consult a psychiatrist to confirm this.

I don't think that there are any circulation disorders with them, but what do I know. He says it is nothing. It drives me crazy when I am sleeping and all the sudden wake up to his arms raised in the air.

I do this too! I joined now just because I woke up this morning with my arm high in the air and I was rubbing it. I do this every once in awhile, and it's not a real problem, I just don't know what it's all about. Let me know if you find anything out about this!

Default Me, too!

Hello!

I just searched for "rubbing arms while sleeping" and found this forum and thread. I've been doing this for years. I always seem to wake up in the middle of the night doing this and don't know why. No one I've ever slept with has acknowledged that I do it, so either they've always been asleep or they just don't want to say what they saw. At any rate, I've am taking medication for narcolepsy. Was on it a few years, went off it for a few (went back to school; no insurance) and now am back on it. My sleep issues have escalated. Just had my follow up appointment today where my dosage was upped... (Provigil). At any rate, I've been too embarrassed to tell my Dr. about this, but have been thinking about it for years, and now all day today since I just had the appointment. So, here I am, trying to see if this is a strange thing I just do, but I am thankful I've at least stumbled on a few people that do it too.

It's been a long time since anyone was active in this thread, so I am not sure if anyone will know I responded. But if anyone does see this, please share if you find out anything. I will do the site. I see them again in six weeks.

And, if no one responds, perhaps someone will find this forum in the future just like I did. So, when you find this message, feel free to contact me to see what I've found out since this post.

BEst,
Donna

I'm another one. Drives my wife crazy. She tells me I do it in my sleep, but I also will rub my arms (usually, but not always the left one) at other times when I'm awake, like when watching TV.

It doesn't bother me, but I'll start doing it on the couch and she'll yell "STOP THAT!!! YOU'RE FREAKING ME OUT! YOU DO THE SAME EXACT THING IN YOUR SLEEP!" or some such. LOL! I joke around about it, but I do wonder why I tend to do this. My pet theory it has something to do with stress, and that the rubbing or tickling of the sensitive part of the arm releases endorphins, and the whole act is something akin to self-medication of stress or anxiety.

As for other sleep issues, I also tend to suffer from sleep apnea, but I don't think the two issues are related. I can totally prevent the sleep apnea by controlling my weight. Once I drop my weight below a certain point, my sleep apnea symptoms (and snoring for that matter) disappear completely.

I am in college an I would like to lose weight, but I have an eating disorder of eating too much. I currently weigh 140 lbs and I am a size 10. I would like to be down to a size 4 or 6. I know how to workout but I need help with the eating problem. I live in the dorms so there is always food available, how can I keep myself away from it? Thanks
