Does anyone here believe in exercising before bed? Do you think that tires you out so sleep is easier, or does it energize you and end up keeping you awake?

When I do a pilates routine at any time of teh day i get so sleepy during and after. Its nto that strenuouse but for some reason teh combinationa nd muscle targets make the brain replease new chemicals that put me out for about 2 hours.
Other exercise just didnt do anything. I think finding the right exercises will help to get a restful sleep or at least down time. julie |

If I exercise right before bed, it does the work of keeping my metabolism up during sleep, but doesn't do much for helping me actually get to sleep.
Great for weight-loss, not so great for feeling restful in my experience. |

I have tried exercise for sleep and it has never worked for me. It just adds irritation to my sleeplessness.

Regular exercise, particularly in the afternoon, can help deepen sleep. Strenuous exercise within the 2 hours before bedtime, however, can decrease your ability to fall asleep.

For me exercising before bed doesn't tire me out. It gets me rejuvinated and I feel like I have my second wind.

I am an evening exerciser. I think it helps. It's not a remedy mind you, but it does help a little.

If I exercise anytime after noon, I will have trouble sleeping that night.
I find it best to stay pretty relaxed so that I can sleep at night. |

I agree with you. Since you exert efforts during exercise, you’ll likely fall asleep afterwards. But there’s another effective way and that is to listen to soothing music. Music that’s slow and classical one is a good choice. For a better sleep, use ear plugs while listening to your MP3 player or iPod so you can have all the music to yourself. If this won’t help you sleep, I don’t know what else.
But you have to be careful, though, not to make your volume level too high so as not to affect your ears. Listening to loud music frequently can cause hearing loss later on. Last edited by marf1273; 04-29-2009 at 04:15 AM. Reason: typo |

It is always advised not to exercise at least 2-3 hours before your scheduled bedtime. It is because or body needs to adjust slowly so that our metabolism will slow down and thus making us tired. If you exercise just right before you go to sleep the body just concentrates on burning your calories, thus making your metabolism much faster.
