Default Nightly Rituals

I've heard that having a bedtime ritual, things you do the same, every night at the same time, can get your mind and body ready for sleep, even if you don't take any medication.

Has anyone tried this?

Default it doesn't always work

I have a nightly set of things that have to get done. But It doesn't always put me under. Having the TV on very low works for me, and I often take cues from my body on falling asleep.
nighttime routine may work for some but nor to for me.

I do a little walking exercise and may even do a little tai chi. This helps me relax so I can sleep a little better.

I do some walking exercise before sleeping. It helps me to get tired quickly and makes my body to take rest. I also play games sometimes, till the midnight.

I think doing the same things might help, it subconsciously tells your body to get ready for bed time.

I have a nightly routine, but it doesn't seem to help as it keeps rehearsing the steps leading up to my not being able to sleep.

I would need to really change my routine to see any benefit.

I'm sure it varies person to person and it totally depends on the situation. If you had a very very good day, or conversely, a very very bad day, that can affect your sleep regardless of whether you're on a routine or not. If you're excited, stressed, worried, depressed, or just overjoyed...it doesn't matter how tired you are. I can imagine though, on average, having a routine may help some people. It probably wouldn't help me much, as I have a restless mind and I'm constantly on the go.

I don't do this myslef, but yes I believe a ritual does work. That is how I get my childrent to bed everynight without a fight. The things we do make them sleepy and they fall right to sleep.

The recommendation is 8 but the average person gets by on 7. I would recommend getting enough sleep to feel fully refreshed.
